He was born Dec. 13, 1921, in Cleveland, Tenn., and came to Manatee County 46 years ago from St. Petersburg. He was the retired owner of Milky Way Farms 1 & 2 and Upper Manatee Farms. He served with the 172nd Combat Engineer Battalion during World War II. He was a charter member of Masonic Lodge 118 in St. Petersburg and a past president of Manatee Shrine Club. He was a member of Scottish Rite and a charter member of Sahib Temple and president of the Temple Guards. He was a member of Florida Cattlemen's Association and was 1992 Agriculture Man of the Year of Manatee County. In 1978, he received the Farm Bureau Family of the Year Award from the Florida Dairy Association. He was a member of Braden River Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bettye Sue; two daughters, C. Elaine Lowe of McAlpin and Kathy G. Logue of Bradenton; three sons, Terry W. of McAlpin, and Dean and Kenneth H., both of Bradenton; several nieces and nephews; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today, with a service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Manatee Avenue Chapel. Burial will be at Skyway Memorial Gardens in Palmetto.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Braden River Baptist Church Building Fund, 5520 Manatee Ave. E., Bradenton, FL 34208; or to American Heart Association, 2975 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL 34239.
