HERD, FRANCENIA ELLIS - born October 30, 1909, died December 17, 2005. A lifelong resident of Knoxville, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Joseph N. Ellis and Francenia Laird Ellis. Mrs. Herd was a life member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville, had formerly been active in the Women's Missionary Union, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Zeta Tau Alpha of the University of Tennessee. She was a Bridge Master. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Ross W. Herd brother, Dr. Samuel Laird Ellis and sisters, Elizabeth Cody Ellis Bachman of Washington, DC and Angela Ellis Smith of Crossville, TN. She is survived by: her sister, Jane Ellis Tracy of Harlem, CA two nieces, Francenia Tracy Walls of Raleigh, NC and Angela Bachman Riedel of Lafayette, CO five nephews, Samuel Laird Ellis, II, Dr. Joseph R. Ellis of Decatur, IL, Charles Laird Smith of Crossville, Lee Tracy and Richard Tracy of Harlem, GA and twelve grandnieces and grandnephews. A private graveside service with Dr. William D. Shiell and Rev. Dave Ward officiating will be held at Lynnhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund or the Television Ministry of First Baptist Church, 510 Main St., Knoxville, TN 37902. Friends may call at their convenience at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
