Kalsea Mantooth seeks 4th district school board seat
Kalsea Mantooth has announced her candidacy for 4th district school board member.
Mantooth, who lives in the Carson Springs community, was an elementary student at Edgemont Elementary, kindergarten through eighth grade. While there, Kalsea was on the honor roll every year, and was a member of the honor's club, Tusculum Talent Search, chosen most athletic, received the Daughters of the American Revolution Citizenship Award and was her eighth grade class valedictorian with a 4.0 grade-point average. Among her academic achievements, she played basketball, softball, and football every year.
Mantooth chose Cosby High School for the next level of her education. She was active both in the classroom and out. She graduated with a 3.714 GPA, sixth class rank, 11 college credits from dual enrollment classes, four-year varsity letters in basketball, soccer, and softball with multiple awards and being named Cosby High School Most Athletic.
She was also an active member of the Cosby Academy, Cosby Leadership Program, PEER mediator, Mu Alpha Theta-National Math Club, vice president and reporter of the Math Club, Beta Club reporter, Student Council representative, National Honors Society, National Beta Club, National High School Student Scholar, National Honor Roll, Who's Who, Honors awards in Spanish, criminal justice, and anatomy/physiology, as well as the 2009 November Newport Plain Talk calendar girl.
Manttoth is pursuing a career in physical therapy/athletic training. She is a referee for the Cocke County Recreation Department and a football referee for the English Mountain Football Conference. As a recent student, she knows firsthand of everyday things that could be done to improve the school and help encourage students to have good attendance and excel in their studies.
"It's very important to stay involved in your community and school. I enjoy visiting Edgemont and events that are held there," she said.
In 2009, Mantooth was the guest speaker for the eighth grade graduating class at Edgemont. She spoke on how important it is to stay focused when you enter high school in order to continue on to college. She touched on the freshman year as being just as important because there is no turning back once you have lost your focus and decide your junior year you want to go to a specific college and your GPA and record have been effected.
Mantooth said, "Throughout my life I have received a lot of support from family and friends of my community. I ask for your support again and vote to become your 4th district school board member."
Mantooth is the daughter of Terry and Crystal Mantooth. She has one brother, Tyler. Her grandparents are John and Judy Gregg, Brenda Wines Mantooth and the late Terry Ronnie Mantooth. Lynn Gregg and Shirley Collins are her uncle and aunt. Mantooth is an active member of Reidtown Community Church where she is the assistant middle teacher.
