John Winster Bolton, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 after a long illness. Born March 13, 1925, in Claiborne County, TN , he grew up in Harrogate, TN and moved with his family to Maryville in 1955. A devout Christian, John , along with his family, was very involved over the years in most activities of East Maryville Baptist Church. He loved playing softball and participated in a church league for many years. John never knew a stranger and helped many of his less fortunate friends throughout his life. He served his country as a radio operator in the Air Force from 1947 through 1949. John was predeceased by his parents, Charlie Bolton and Nellie Fortner Bolton in 1973. He lovingly cared for his mother-in-law, Molly Laymon Vannoy, until her death in 1972. For twenty years he worked for Pet Dairy and after his retirement there, continued to work for a local pesticide company until he officially retired at the age of sixty-two.
John is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Anna Ruth Vannoy Bolton; daughter, Teresa Cicuzza and husband, James, of Maryville; daughter, Vicki Bolton Durand and husband, Steve, of Naples, FL; son, Vann Bolton and wife, Joyce, of Nashville, TN ; daughter, Sheila Merritt and husband, Terry, of Maryville; ten grandchildren, Leslie Hicks Kilgore and husband, Justin, of Chattanooga, TN , Daniel Durand of Charlotte, NC, Stephanie Durand of Tallahassee, FL, Anna and John Bolton of Nashville, Alicia and Jeremy Cowan of Nashville, Dustin Merritt of Colorado Springs, CO, Tara and Caylie Merritt both of Maryville; brother, Bill Bolton and wife, Mary, of Speedwell, TN and sister-in-law, Edna Bullard, of Harrogate.
Friends will be received at Coffey Funeral Home in Tazewell, TN on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.; funeral services will be immediately following with the Reverend Keith Johnson and Rev. David Bolton officiating. Graveside services will be held at Grears Chapel Baptist Church, Harrogate, TN at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 28, 2004.
Pallbearers: James Cicuzza, Terry Merritt, Robert Hicks, Jack Fanning, Arlen McLime, Vince Price. Honorary pallbearers: Steve Durand, Charles Bolton, Cass Bolton, all of John 's nephews, John 's Sunday School class at East Maryville Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of Knoxville, TN , who so lovingly and comfortingly assisted John and his family during his last days.
