Edith Childs Haney, age 90, a resident of the Batley community of Anderson County, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville.
She was born Aug. 20, 1916, in Duff, Tenn. However, she lived most of her life in the Batley community.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Batley Baptist Church. Her hobbies included quilting and gardening.
Mrs. Haney was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Haney; by a son, Hayes Haney; by her parents, Reece Childs and Nellie Moore Childs ; and by three brothers, Hubert, Bob, and Lawrence Childs .
Survivors: daughters, Ethel McGhee and husband Garlis of Clinton, and Judy DeVaney and husband David of Clinton; granddaughters, Cathy Gooden of Clinton, and Cristy Ping and husband Tod of Clinton. She has a very special great-granddaughter, Malory Gooden of Clinton, whom she loved dearly; sister, Lorene Davis of Clinton; brothers, Clyde Childs of Coalfield, Mack Childs of Clinton, Fred Childs of Clinton.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Larry Webster and Dr. Don Long officiating. Burial and graveside services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Batley Baptist Cemetery.
