Helen Norton King went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 6th. She was born in Kentucky on July 17th, 1928, but she, Paul and their two small children moved to Tennessee early in their marriage, and Knoxville became their home for the remainder of her life. She was a longtime member of Redemption Church. Helen is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Paul, who cared for her so faithfully for over 64 years and even more so as her health failed her in recent years. She was the love of his life. Other survivors include her daughter, Andra (Doug) Walker; son, Eddie (Nora) King; granddaughter, Laren (Adam) King Vittetoe; sister, Nola Mae Young; sister-in-law, Bernice Norton; brother-in-law, Earl Burchfield, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her precious grandson, Marcus Ramsey King; parents, Joe and Pearlie Norton; brothers, R.C. and Estel Norton, and sisters, Dorothy Burchfield and Ruby Norton. There was never a more patient and loving mother, and she loved God and her family with everything in her. All who knew her were touched by her kindness and sweet spirit. She came to be known as Mamaw by children in her church, which she loved with all of her heart. We were so proud of her and blessed to have such a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She’s with Jesus now. All the pain is gone and her frail little body is healed. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the second floor staff at NHC Fort Sanders for the love and care they showed her the last two years of her life. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30, Tuesday, March 9th at Redemption Church International, Pleasant Ridge Road, Knoxville. Pallbearers include Bill Buchanan, Ron Arnold, Larry Phillips, Claude Rankin, Russell Ogle, Wayne Jones, Gez Dos Santos, and Danny French. The Reverend Tom Everett, Lay Minister John Greene, and her son and Pastor, Dr. Ed King will conduct the service following the receiving of friends Tuesday evening. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Kingston Pike, Wednesday, March 10th, at 11:00AM.
