Bodenheimer, Irma Mae Hall –age 97, of South Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Baptist Hospice. She was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church. Irma graduated from Young High School and received a B.Sc. degree in education from The University of Tennessee. A retired school teacher, Irma taught 37 ˝ years in the Knox County and Blount County School Systems. Most of her career, she taught second grade. Many of her former students remembered her and have commented that she was “the best teacher I ever had.” A wonderful cook, Irma took pleasure in preparing meals for family and friends. No one has succeeded in replicating her Thanksgiving cornbread dressing, though many have tried. Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. (Jeff) Bodenheimer, a longtime employee of The Knoxville News Sentinel; parents, Frank O. and Nellie Goddard Hall; daughters, Irma Jane and Patricia Nell Bodenheimer; son, Patrick Lee Bodenheimer; grandson, Bryan Lee Bodenheimer; brother, Merle A. Hall; sisters, Anna B. Hall and Era Hall Gervin.
Survivors
She is survived by her sister, Ruby Hall Atchley of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. Sr. and Sally Nelson Bodenheimer of Knoxville; grandsons and wives, Robert E. Bodenheimer, Jr. and Jeanne Larose of Nashville, Marc A. and Lisa A. Bodenheimer of Knoxville; grandsons, Bryson J. and Benjamin L. Bodenheimer; several nieces and nephews; and two very special friends, Kathy Hines and Kenny Goddard, who helped so much in Irma’s last days.
Service
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 13, 2007 from 12 Noon-2:00 PM at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 3200 Maryville Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920 with a memorial service to follow, The Rev. Helen Shaw and The Rev. Al Shaver officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa Highway. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2417 Tipton Station Road, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
