Crawford, Henry Alexander, age 94, of Solway, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at his home with his family around him. Henry is the last surviving child of 25 children born to Adam Johnson Crawford and Carrie Hensley Crawford. He was a member of the Solway Church of God for the past 74 years; an avid Fox Hunter for most of his life, but most importantly a wonderful husband, dad, and papaw to his family and Uncle to his many nieces and nephews and several “adopted” children along the span of his life. He retired from ORNL X-10 plant in Oak Ridge after many years of service and worked with his son-in-law at Murrell Dew Construction for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 full brothers and sisters and 13 half brothers and sisters; son-in-law, JR Hicks. He is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Rose Hurst Crawford; sons, Marvin (Betty) of Knoxville and Don (Lona) of Jasper, AL; daughters, Lynda (Randy) Dew and Kathy Hicks of Knoxville; grandchildren, Rocky (Lori) Crawford, Robby (Michelle) Crawford, Marvina (Mike) Baldwin of Knoxville, Steve (Ann) Dew of Heiskell, Valerie (Todd) Ellis of Knoxville, Susan (Steve) Mitchell of Seymour and Donna (Wade) Benson of Jacksonville, NC; great-grandchildren, Michael Crawford of Ohio, Joshua Crawford, Roxan Humphrey, Jessica and James Baldwin, Robert and Ryan Crawford of Knoxville, Kelli, Zachary and Skylar Dew of Heiskell, Cody, Connor and Faith Mitchell of Seymour, and Will Benson of Jacksonville, NC.; special friend, Katherine Nauman. A very special Thank You to nephews, Lowell and Jeff Allison, Roger Crawford for their love and support during these past few months. Also, thanks to Stacy, Susie and Misty for your wonderful care. We would not have made it without you. The family will be receiving friends Saturday, September 18, 2010, from 11:00am to 2:00pm with a Celebration of Dad’s transfer from his earthly home to his heavenly home following at 2:00pm at the Solway Church of God with Rev. Earl Stinson, Rev. Robert Holmes, and great-grandson, Cody Mitchell, officiating.Eulogy by niece, Phyllis Hunt. Interment will be at the Solway Church of God Cemetery following celebration with Rev Jake Popejoy, officiating. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
