Lusby, Carl (Gube) – age 75 of Knoxville passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008, at St. Mary’s Residential Hospice after two courageous battles with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was a long time, faithful member of Sand Branch United Methodist Church. He was retired from East TN Packing Co. after 32 years of service and continued to work another 20+ years in the livestock business. He, along with his wife Carolyn owned and operated Country Deli for 25 years. He was a member and treasurer of the Asbury Cemetery Board for many years. Preceded in death by parents, Buford and Grace Mays Lusby; sister, Martha Winstead; brother, Richard Lusby; granddaughter, Jennifer Huettel; and grandson, Cody Hollifield. Survived by wife of 55 years, Carolyn Clabo Lusby; son, Kent Lusby; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Tim Huettel, and Karen and Mike Hollifield; grandchildren, Jordan Huettel, Brittney and Baylee Hollifield; sisters, Mary Moody, Gloria Beal and Tommy Davidson, Patricia Simmons and husband Kyle; brother, Don Lusby and wife Sandy; sister-in-law, Claudia Lusby; and several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Bruce Avery and staff, nurses and doctors at St. Mary’s Hospital, Holston Rehab, and St. Mary’s Residential Hospice. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 14, 2008, in the chapel at Bridges Funeral Home with Rev. Becky Smithey and Rev. Kim Isley Beard officiating. Family and friends will meet 1:45 PM Wednesday at Asbury Cemetery for a 2:00 PM interment. Pallbearers: John Kurtz, Charles Burkhart, Jerry Richardson, Gordon Oglesby, Kyle Simmons, Gary Beal, Tommy Davidson, Dee Sims. Honorary pallbearers: Curt French, Bud Slimp, Glen Cook, Frank Caldwell, A.C. Haggard, Jack Davis and all his nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sand Branch United Methodist Church, 2301 Thorn Grove Pike, Knoxville, TN 37914. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday at Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike, 523-4999.
