MANNIS, ALBERT, JR. - age 83, passed away January 15, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospice Center in Halls where he was surrounded by his loving family. Preceded in death by parents Albert Sr. & Birdie Whaley Mannis, son William (Billy) Mannis, sister Aileen Neff Irwin, great-grandchildren Joshua Allen Monroe Helton and Michael Alan Helton. Survived by wife of 63 years Mattie Rhoads Mannis; daughter Vickie Mannis Monroe and Michael; sons Tony Mannis, Clint Mannis and wife Maggie; sister Barbara Davis; grandchildren Jennifer Wampler and husband Danny, Michael Stallings and wife Donna, Robin Rowan and husband Bobby, Ginger Helton, Shasta Mannis, Jerry Mannis, Chance Mannis; great-grandchildren Haley, Blake & Brock Wampler, Sydney & Katelyn Helton, Molly Mannis; several nieces & nephews; sister-in-law Betty Hawkins; brother-in-law Harold Rhoads; special friends Buck Coker & Raymond Smith. Mr. Mannis owned and operated Mannis Truck Repair until retirement. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and served as a Peace Keeper in Inch'on, Korea. He received the Asiatic/Pacific Theater Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a 50 year member of Cherokee 728 Lodge, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Kerbella Temple and Acasia May 24 OES. Special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Reese and his staff. The nursing staff and sitters of 7 North at Ft Sanders Hospital and St Mary's Hospice staff of Halls, special care givers Chance Mannis, Katey & Sydney Helton. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home 5815 Western Avenue. Family & friends will meet at 3:00 p.m. Monday for graveside services at Highland Memorial Cemetery on Sutherland Avenue. Rev Jack Walker will officiate at the graveside services. Masonic services will be provided by Cherokee Lodge 728 and military services will be provided by the Volunteer State Honor Guard.
