SMITH, LORAN SHERWOOD - age 87, of Heiskell, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at Mariner Health Care Center in Andersonville. He was a member of Lincoln Park Baptist Church in Knoxville. He was a United States Army Veteran, who served during World War II. He retired from Southern Railways as a bus driver. He had also worked at the University of Tennessee as a Grounds Foreman. Preceded in death by parents, Jesse and Serena Beeler Smith; two sisters and six brothers. Loran was born September 26, 1914, in Knox County. Survivors: wife, Dorothy E. Smith of Heiskell; mother-in-law, Grace Ezell of Heiskell; sisters, Edna Keith of Knoxville, and Geneva Bull and husband, George of Corryton; brother, Marvin Smith and wife, Nadelle of Houston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Ruth Smith of Dayton Beach, Fla., and Chloe Smith of Kentucky, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2001, at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, with funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel. Chaplain clay Mulford and Rev. Ray Hill officiating. Interment will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville. Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, of Clinton, in charge of all arrangements.
