IMOGENE KANIPE, age 86, of Port Huron, MI, native of Talbott, TN, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010. She was preceded in death by husband, Luther J. Kanipe, Sr.; son, Luther (Jay) Kanipe, Jr. of MI; parents, Elihue and Maude Knight; brothers, Clarence, Carl and Cecil Knight, all of Talobtt, Claude Knight of Knoxville, TN. She is survived by daughter-in-law, Mary Kanipe of Michigan; sisters, Mary Ogle of Jefferson City, TN, Lena Jones of Dallas, TX and Pauline Sartain of Talbott, TN; brother, Clifford Knight of Morristown; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Obituary:
Imogene B. Kanipe, 86, of Grant Township, died Saturday, January 16, 2010, at MediLodge of Port Huron.
She was born November 3, 1923 in Tolbert, Tennessee, the daughter of the late E.H. and Maude Carmichael Knight.
Her marriage to Luther James Kanipe was October 6, 1941 in Knoxville. They lived in Madison Heights for many years and moved 18 years ago to Grant Township. Luther died October 23, 2001.
Surviving is a daughter-in-law Mary Jane Kanipe of Greenwood Township, 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; her sisters Pauline Sartain, Magoline Ogles and Lena Jones and brother Clifford Knight.
Preceding her death was a son Luther James Jr. “Jay” November 2, 2009; and grandson Michael Kanipe and brothers Cecil, Claude, Clarence and Carl.
Her family honors the memory of Imogene and invite you to visit and share Tuesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Rev. Lisa Clark, pastor of Ruby United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Christian Cultural Memorial Cemetery, Peck.
