Clara Mae Claiborne Cates, 76, died Sunday, October 11, at NHC Healthcare in Murfreesboro, after an extended illness.
She was a native of Knoxville.
She was of the Baptist faith and was a housewife. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gervis and Manota Sparks Claiborne; and her husband, Frank Ward Cates.
Survivors: son and daughter-in-law, David Zane Cates and Terri Cates of Oliver Springs; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dr. Gayle Tate of Woodbury; brother, Howard Bearden Claiborne of Knoxville; sister, June Townsend of Knoxville; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, at Highland Memorial Chapel, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, with Brother Bobby Zumbro officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery in Knoxville.
Visitation with the family will be Monday, October 12, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Highland Memorial Chapel.
Woodbury Funeral Home, Woodbury, is in charge.
