Sgt. Everette L. Messer, (retired), 81, died peacefully at his home on Friday, May 22, 2009.
He was a retired sergeant from the Army with 21 years of service and a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was a member of Sycamore United Methodist Church and a member of the Prince George Ruritan Club.
Mr. Messer was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Viola and Patton Reece; and a brother, Toy Reece.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alma Lee Messer; three sons, Donald L. Messer, Dennis L. Messer and his wife Rose, and Richard F. Messer; two daughters, Carol M. Crawford and her husband David, and Barbara J. Messer; eight grandchildren, Bonnie Lambert, Billy Michael and his wife Jenny, Davi Wayne Crawford Jr., Eric Crawford, Ryann Messer, Christina Messer, Marcus Crawford and Heather Messer; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Corrine Huddleston; four sisters, Eunice Lowe, of Aiken, S.C.; Reva Williamson and her husband Arnold, of Petersburg, Va.; Ila Cagle and her husband Roy, of Knoxville, Tenn.; Ovella Willis and her husband Lee, of Newport, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
