Robert Mills Clark, 76, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida died December 8, 2011 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
He was born May 7, 1935 in Maryville, Tennessee to James Curtis Clark and Edna Ruth Anthony, and grew up in Newport, Tennessee. After graduating high school, he attended the University of Tennessee for two years and entered U.S. Air Force flight school in 1955. He graduated flight school (Class 56-V) and was commissioned into the Air Force in 1956.
Bob met and married another officer, Charlotte Sasser, in 1959. During his military career, Bob and Charlotte and their family were stationed in California, Japan, Canada and Florida; and Bob served in Korea and Viet Nam. He retired in 1977 after 22 years with the rank of Major. He then worked for 19 years with the State of Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Service, retiring in 1996.
He continued to pursue his education, receiving a bachelor's degree from The University of Omaha in 1966 and a Master's in Public Administration from Troy State University in 1977.
He enjoyed his rescue dogs Homer and Rufus and their visits to the dog park, his birds, and spending time with his family and many friends. His myriad other interests included reading, history, politics, and the pursuit of the perfect barbeque ribs.
He is survived by a daughter Cynthia Clark and her husband Ronald Macklin of Massapequa Park, New York; a son James Curtis Clark of Astoria, Oregon; a daughter Catherine Clark (Maj. USAF Ret.) of Crestview, Florida; and three grandchildren, Aaron, Cassidy and Emily.
He will be missed by many and our world is now a much lonelier place. As per his wishes he will be laid to rest next to Charlotte at Heritage Gardens Cemetery, Niceville, Florida.
