SHEPHERD, JOYCE - 60, went home to be with the Lord, May 01, 2009. She was born April 24, 1949 to Doyle Beacher and Iva Faye (McCarter) Williams in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. She and Steve married on December 20, 1970 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Joyce had a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee where she graduated with honors. She was a member of Phi Chi Theta, Business Women's Honorary Society; Phi Kappa Phi, Honorary Society; and Beta Gamma Sigma, Business Honorary Society. She was a volunteer for CONTACT, a Crisis Hot Line in Anderson County Tennessee. Joyce was a member of the Executive Board of Clinch River Home Health Care in Anderson County, Tennessee, a non-profit organization providing home health care and hospice services for those in need. She was also Chairman of the Finance Committee of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Joyce retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2005 as the Director of Sponsored Research, Management System Integration, Technology Transfer and Economic Development. She and Steve moved to Marshall, Arkansas in 2005 where they were embraced by a loving community and their Christian family at the First Christian Church. Joyce's desire would be that her suffering might magnify and amplify her testimony of the wonderful relationship that she had found with Jesus Christ. She hoped her testimony would lead those she loved who did not know or had not accepted Christ to a point where they would realize how much Christ loves them and cares for them. She wanted to be used of God for that purpose. Her love for her husband, children, grandchildren, and the desire for them to walk in truth with the Lord were her greatest blessings to them. She is preceded in death by her parents Doyle and Iva Williams. She is survived by her husband Steve Shepherd of Marshall, Arkansas; two sons, Steven and wife Laura Shepherd of Harrison, Arkansas, Lieutenant Commander Matthew and wife Clare Shepherd of Okinawa, Japan; two brothers, Doyle and wife Cindy Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, Don and wife Janice Williams of Oak Ridge, Tennessee; two sisters, Elizabeth Simmons of Maryville, Tennessee, Linda and husband Gordon Cobb of Mineral, Virginia; three grandchildren, Thomas, Emma and Lilly and several nieces and nephews.
