Wade Fowler obituary
- [S24] The Newport Plain Talk, (http://www.newportplaintalk.com), 15 Feb 2009.
Valentine's Day arrived quietly with morning showers amid the shortest month of the year in our hometown, but by nightfall the restaurants and night spots were packed with celebrations.
A couple weeks ago I received a letter from Becky Fowler, who told of a sad story of the loss of one of the few possessions her late dad had left to her. Perhaps you knew Wade Fowler, who lived off Indian Camp Road. He died in May 2006. One of the last memories Becky has of him was sitting on his porch playing an old guitar and singing. He died that day. Becky only wanted his Washburn acoustical guitar. It was kept in a black case. Sometime during January, at the start of the last winter blast, she was working in Gatlinburg when the guitar was stolen from her home. She lives near the intersection of Caney Creek and Caton's Grove roads at upper Cosby. Becky was heart broken over the theft, because it was the one thing she treasured and the only item stolen out of her house. As she said, "You took away something that I cherished and that holds a special place in my broken heart." Her father raised five children. For the past 16 years, Becky has been a clerk at the popular Mahalia's candy shop in downtown Gatlinburg. The thing she would like is to get the guitar back. You may have seen it or know where it is. If you do, contact me at the Plain Talk and I will see that it is returned, along with all those fond memories of her beloved father.
