MCTEER, MARY ELIZABETH HIGGINS ARCHER - 98, of Morgantown, WV and formerly of Knoxville, TN, passed away early Friday morning, February 6, 2009 at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown. Mary was born in Knoxville, TN on February 21, 1910, a daughter of the late John Esley Higgins and the late Adria Burnette Higgins. Survivors include her daughters Mary Archer Koike and her husband, Kazunari J.M. Koike of Morgantown, and Jodie McTeer Johnson and her husband, Johnny of Townsend, TN; three grandchildren, Adria Burnette Foster Pollitt and her husband, Robert, of Charlotte, NC, Kenzo James Paul Koike and his wife, Jane Gonzalez Koike of Tampa, FL, and Jennifer Johnson of Maryville, TN; and many nieces and nephews who were dearly loved. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, James Paul Archer and Fred McTeer; two brothers John Burnette "Bonnie" Hollingsworth and John Ernest Higgins and one sister Leona Hollinsworth Keith. Mary was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was an avid flower arranger and a member of the Westwood Garden Club. She was also a member of Ossoli Circle and Chapter P, WV, of the P.E.O. Sisterhood - a philanthropic organization that promotes education for women. Her support for the University of Tennessee Volunteers was unwavering, and she especially loved following Pat Summit and the Lady Vols basketball team. She had also become a great West Virginia Mountaineer fan over the years and enjoyed watching Mountaineer sports. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her favorite Bible verse was "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18). Mrs. McTeer will be returned to Knoxville, TN for interment in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
