Karen Joyce (McClung) Elkins, 65, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Care Center in Wichita.
She was born Aug. 3, 1937, to Carl and Velma (Bingham) McClung in Elkhart.
She married Kent Elkins Aug. 29, 1958, in Elkhart. He survives.
She graduated from Elkhart High School and received her associate's degree from Colorado Women's College in Denver in 1957. She later completed a certificate of study from Amarillo Business College.
She and her husband moved to Elkhart following their marriage. She worked as a secretary for her father with the McClung Land Company until she left to start a family.
She volunteered with the Morton County Farm Bureau Board, the Elkhart Art Association and the Morton County Hospital Auxiliary. She delivered 'Meals on Wheels', taught Sunday school, led vacation Bible school, was a band booster mom, camp counselor, 4-H Club advisor and Girl Scout leader.
She helped to establish the Elkhart High School alumni reunions for which she chaired the organizational committee for several years.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Federated Women's Club and P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter BF.
Her hobbies included traveling throughout the country to visit her friends, family and relatives, and spending time with her grandson.
Other survivors include one son, Dennis and wife, Robyn; two daughters, Reneé and Carla; one grandson, Isaac; one sister, Linda Mitchell and husband, Kenneth; and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
* Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Church of God in Elkhart with the Pastors Jim Cunningham, Ron Wilson and Ronald Crosley presiding.
Burial will be at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart. Graveside rites will be performed by the P.E.O Sisterhood Chapter BF.
Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
