Charles Asher Bushnell, Sr., 85, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 1, 2007. Charles was born in Botetourt and lived all of his life in Roanoke. He was retired from Norfolk & Western Railway. He served in the US Army during World War II in the military police and was a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren for 43 years. Mr. Bushnell was preceded in death by his son, Charles Asher Bushnell, Jr.; his parents, Charles and Minnie Bushnell; sister, Ada Moss and her husband Edgar. Surviving him are his wife of 64 years, Nellie Elizabeth Bushnell; son, Jerry Lynn Bushnell and wife Tonya; daughters, Shelby Jean Bass and husband George, Bonnie Sue Hall; sister, Mary Naff and her husband, Glen; niece, Rita Foster and husband, Sam; granddaughters, Mikki McPherson, Shelby Law and her husband, Derek; grandsons, Jeff Powell and his wife, Kellie, Charles Bushnell III, Marc Bass and his wife, Molly, Brian Bass and his wife, Amy, Michael Bushnell, Matthew Bushnell; great-granddaughters, Kristy McPherson, Brileigh Cahryn Bass; great-grandsons, Cody McPherson, Jordan Law, Shane Law, Jackson Powell, Ethan Powell.Our HeroSearch For The Light,And You Shall See -All The Glorious Angels,Waiting For Thee.From Heaven Above,You'll Watch Over Us Here -Knowing That Forever,Your Memories We Hold Dear.Never One Moment,Will We Ever Forget -The Man That You Were,To All Those You've Met.Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's South Chapel, 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2007 with the Rev. Ed Woodard officiating. Interment to follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. A dinner for family and friends will be at Oak Grove Church of the Brethren after the interment on Saturday. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2007 at Oakey's South Chapel.
