Scarbrough, James “Vernon”, age 77, of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Blount Memorial Hospital surrounded by family and friends after a four year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Vernon was the Minister at Nelson’s Chapel Church of Christ for 43 years. He graduated from Porter High School, attended Freed Hardeman College and Florida Christian College. He owned Vernon’s Carpet Center for 28 years. He was preceded in death by parents, Martin and Roxie Scarbrough, and his grandparents.
Survivors
Survived by loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Marye Shields Scarbrough; daughters: Debbie Scarbrough Boling and husband Mel; Kay Scarbrough Merritt and husband, Gary of Maryville; four grandchildren: Linda Simonton and husband Donny of Tampa, Florida; David McMurray and wife Ashley; Brant Hicks and wife, Jodi; Russell Boling and wife, Kristy; five great-grandchildren: Donovan Simonton, Sadie and Samuel McMurray, Collin and Chloe Boling; two brothers: Ernest Scarbrough and wife Shirley of Nashville; Elmer Scarbrough and wife Wanda of Seymour; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Charlotte Douglas of Murfreesboro, TN; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a world of friends.
Service
Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday at East Side Church of Christ, 2547 Sevierville Road in Maryville with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 PM, Ministers Steve Riley and Jody Colvin officiating. Family and friends will meet at the Mausoleum Chapel at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Saturday at 11:00 AM for commital services. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Bob Hope Road, Miami, Florida 33136-1494. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway.
