Warren, Walter DeWitt, age 83, of South Knoxville, entered the Church Triumphant on Monday, February 18, 2008 at Baptist Hospital, Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. Warren was a long time member of Graystone Presbyterian Church serving as Deacon and Elder. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Brick Mason Local #3. Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, R.M. and Jamie Claiborne Warren; two brothers and their wives, Ray M. Jr., (Louise) and Donald M. (Helen) Warren and two sisters and their husbands, Polly Edgemon (Lynn) and Mary Fletcher (William).
Survivors
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Evans Warren; three daughters, Jane Warren Jones (Philip) of Huntersville, North Carolina, Rosemary Warren Newport of Knoxville, Tennessee and Julia Warren Newport (John) of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Andrew Jones (Kristin), Margaret Jones, Sarah Newport, Mac Newport, Emily Newport, Nathan Newport, Noah Newport, Caleb Newport; one great-grandchild, John Andrew Jones; several nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Nancy Brown Evans, Andrew and Avis Kitts Evans.
Service
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, February 22, 2008 at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Graystone Presbyterian Church, 139 Woodlawn Pike, with Rev. Dr. Lawrence R. Hitchens officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the members, past and present, of the Graystone Builders Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to the Children and Youth Ministries of Graystone Presbyterian Church.
