MENDENHALL, JAMES LEE "JIM" - of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center at the age of 69. Mr. Mendenhall was a retired firefighter with the City of Knoxville after 40 years of service. He was a member of Loveland Baptist Church and the Knights of the King Sunday School Class. He was also a veteran of the United States Army Reserves and a member of the Retired Firefighters Association. Preceded in death by his parents, Stewart and Mildred Smith Mendenhall, brother, Marvin Mendenhall, and granddaughter, Keeley Mendenhall. He is survived by his wife of 49 wonderful years, Judy Reed Mendenhall of Knoxville; sons and daughter-in-laws, Ricky and Lisa Mendenhall of Maynardville and Tim and Tammy Mendenhall of Knoxville; grandchildren, Keefer (whom he was her honeybun), Lee, and In Mendenhall; brother and sister-in-law, Benny Ray and Linda Mendenhall of Karns; sister-in-law, Sandy Mendenhall; faithful pet, Jada; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tommy and Pat Reed of Quinton, VA; special friends, Joyce and Dan Jansen and Peggy Cook; along with several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at Loveland Baptist Church with Reverend Oliver Wolfenbarger, KFD Chaplain Paul Trumpore, and Reverend Mark Large officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday at the W. Adair entrance to Lynnhurst Cemetery for a 12:00 noon interment service with honors provided by the Knoxville Fire Department Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be current and retired firefighters of the City of Knoxville Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Loveland Baptist Church Building Fund, 1320 Spring Hill Road, Knoxville, TN 37914.
