Each Sunday the Plain Talk carrier force delivers thousands of newspapers, including a special free sample. I talked to one of those who received the free paper when she did not get one and called the office. Norma Kelly is up in her years and cataracts make it difficult for her to read. She particularly likes to get the grocery ads. Some of her eye problems stem from diabetes. Norma was raised in Greene County but married Junior Kelley from here. She said her late husband is related to Don Kelly and Fred Kelly. Junior had worked many years at the Emerson plant, retired, and worked part-time for the Forest Service at Houston Valley until he died about six years ago. Norma has lived in the county for more than 40 years but her parents, Lloyd Stokely and the former Virginia Morelock lived in Greene County. I asked her what she likes to do in addition to reading the Sunday paper and she said, "I love to have lunch at Seay's restaurant on Sundays." Before she retired you may have seen her preparing food at the former Mariner Health Care Center. Her children still live not far away. They are James Kelly of Parrottsville and Judy Cagle, of Long Creek. With the holidays getting closer, it's a time we remember those family and friends not at home.
