Mr. Smith was a member of French Broad Valley Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Trustee. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in WWII. Preceded in death by his parents Wiley and Mary Smith, wife Margaret, son Arvin F. Smith, grandson Ben Smith, brothers Joe, Sam and Leon Smith, sister Maude Norris. Survivors include grandchildren Mike, Lisa, Mark and David; 12 great grandchildren; special friend, Myrtle Whaley. The Smith family will receive friends Tuesday, June 10, 2008 from 6-8 pm in the McCarty-Evergreen Chapel, funeral services will follow at 8 pm with Pastor Charlie Harkleroad and Jim Smith officiating. Family and friends will meet Wednesday at 10:15 am for a 10:30 am interment service. Arrangements by McCarty-Evergreen Chapel.
