J.F. (Smiley) Shropshire, 71, passed away Thursday morning at his home following a lengthy illness.
He worked for Stokely Van Camp for 25 years before his retirement in 1990.
J.F. was a member of the Rays Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Merrie Ruth Shropshire; children, Mike Shropshire, of Newport; Agnes Smelcer and her husband, John, of Cosby, and Melissa Wines and her husband, Billy, of Newport; mother, Ella Shropshire, of Newport; sisters, Bonnie Rutherford, of Dandridge, and Lorene Hartsell and Willa Mae Hux, both of Newport; brothers, Pig, Gary, Junior, and Wayne Shropshire, all of Newport; grandchildren, Kevin Grahl and his wife, Christa, and Brandon and Jacob Wines, all of Newport, and Crystal Phillips and her husband, David, of Whitsett, North Carolina.
J.F. was preceded in death by his son, Hal Shropshire; his father, Frank Shropshire, and a sister, Elsie Viola Shropshire.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Chapel with Rev. Billy Ball ofÞciating. Interment will be in the Templin Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the Brown Funeral Home.
Brown Funeral Home is in charge.
