Geter Plato Jenkins went to his heavenly home on Sunday, February 3, 2013. He was born July 1, 1922 to the late Jim and Della Jenkins in Graham County, NC. Geter loved the Lord and served Him faithfully at Madison Avenue Baptist Church for almost fifty years. A veteran of the United States Navy, he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After 36 years of employment Geter retired from ALCOA, in 1983. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Geter always loved spending time with his family-in the mountains, at the beach, fishing, or attending sporting events. He was an avid gardener. Geter spent many enjoyable hours hiking the trails in the Great Smoky Mountains with his best friend, Harlan Crumpton.
Geter was preceded in death by his parents; son, Geter, Jr., grandson, Geter III; brothers, Alvin, Hoyie, Fasset, Emil, and Gay and sister, Mary.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 66 years, Lucy Williams Jenkins; daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and J. E. Noe; daughter, Patricia Jenkins; daughter-in-law, Glenda Jenkins; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Chris and Amanda Noe, Jonathan and Kelly Noe; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jennifer and Nolan Shepherd; great grandsons, Christopher Noe, Samuel Shepherd, Carson Shepherd; great granddaughter, Laney Noe; sister-in-law and husband, Hazel and Hugh Anderson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Madison Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Cummings officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sherwood Mausoleum for the entombment service.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Madison Avenue Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 1918 Madison Avenue, Maryville, TN 37804.
