Jerry Levoid Wilds, born February 27, 1916 passed away November 9, 2006 at his home in Houston Valley following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Wilds was a lifelong resident of the Houston Valley area. He was a protestant by faith. He was retired from the U.S. Forestry Service. He enjoyed life outdoors and farming all of his adult life. He loved his God, and his family with unfailing devotion and commitment. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Leroy and Winnie Ray Wilds; two daughters, Winnie Wilds and Angela Wilds; brothers, Clura, Gonald, Virgil and Jacob Wilds; sisters, Rossie Blankenship, Ethel Shelton, Beatrice Ballew, and Mary Lowe. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elsie Long Wilds; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bureda and George White of Parrottsville and Yvonne and Roy Sluder of Houston Valley; one son and daughter-in-law, Parker and Nanette Wilds of Parrottsville; granddaughter, Emily Ellison and her husband, Sean of Dandridge; grandsons, Dustin Wilds and his wife Letisha, Dennis Wilds all of Newport, and John White of Parrottsville; great-grandchildren, Evan Ellison, Elijah Wilds, Ethan Wilds, and Emma Wilds; three sisters, Robbie Bedenbaugh of Lexington, SC, Nuffie Arrington of Houston Valley, and Phyllis Wilds of West Columbia, SC; sisters-in-law, Ruby Wilds, Sue Wilds, Dixie Wilds all of Greene County, Eva Wilds of Newport, Ruby Collier, Mary Ellen Hope, Maxine Harmon, Carol Cutshall and her husband, Rev. Roger Cutshall all of Greene County; brother-in-law, Billy Long and his wife Judy of Greene County; a host of nieces and nephews and friends; a devoted longtime caregiver; Barbara Gregg; and other caregivers, Mary Greene, Kathy Fellers, Jennifer Myers, and Margaret Foshie. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday November 11, 2006 in the chapel of Rose Hill Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Powell, Jr., the Rev. Roger Cutshall, and Dustin Wilds will officiate. Larry Frazier will be the vocalist. Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens, conducted by his grandchildren, Dustin Wilds, Dennis Wilds, Emily Ellison, and John White. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Dustin Wilds, John White, Dennis Wilds, Dexton Wilds, James Wilds, and Jacob (Jackie) Wilds Jr. The family sincerely appreciates the care and support of Dr. Thomas Beckner and his staff at Greeneville Internal Medicine Group and the compassionate care and comfort provided by Smokey Mountain Hospice, Laughlin Home Health, and Superior Home Health during Dad's illness.
