GARRETT , BENSON WOODROW - age 86, of Oak Ridge, died Saturday, March 13, 1999. During World War II, he served in the US Navy Seabees in the South Pacific. After discharge, he was employed by Union Carbide, Nuclear Division at the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge, where he worked as a supervisor in the Weapons Program. He retired in 1978. During his retirement, he researched, wrote and published to family histories. " Garrett , Southern Pioneer Families" and "Kimberly Family 1550-1982." He was born March 3, 1913, in Dubois, Ga., the son of Annie Bell Kimberly Garrett and George Benajer Garrett . Mr. Garrett was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City, but attended the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. Before serving in the war, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corporation in Jefferson County and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Preceded in death by: brother, James Roy Garrett ; and a son, Dale Love Garrett . He is survived by: his wife of 56 years, Boodie Love Garrett ; son, Dr. Mark Garrett and wife, Candy Garrett of Clinton. Funeral services are Monday, March 15, 1999, at 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary with Rev. Larry Dipboye officiating. Graveside services are Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Gardens with Rev. Derik Hamby officiating. The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the First Baptist Church, 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 15, 1999, from 6:30-8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary, Oak Ridge.
