June Eldridge, age 75, a long time resident of Oak Ridge/Knoxville area, passed away at 9:40 p.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center. June was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Knoxville. She was born August 11, 1931, in Seymour, Tennessee, to Roy and Eva Reagan Eldridge. She was a 1947 graduate of Karns High School. June graduated from Fort Sanders School of Nursing and served as a nurse in both Knoxville and Oak Ridge communities. She began her career at the Hill-Moore Clinic in Knoxville and later worked at Y-12 in Oak Ridge in both Medical and Benefit Plans departments. For most of her career, June was employed at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center in various positions, including Nursing Supervisor and in the Nursing Office. She retired in September 2000, after 50 years in nursing. June was selfless, caring and compassionate; she was devoted to her family, many friends, co-workers, and patients. She considered those of Grace Baptist Church and the Methodist Medical Center like members of her own family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy V. and Eva Reagan Eldridge; her brother, Roy Dan Eldridge; son, Charles Lindsey (Butch) Ellis; and infant son, Neil Wesley Ellis. Surviving relatives are daughter, June Leslie (Candi) McKnight; granddaughter, Lindsey McKnight; grandson, Nicholas McKnight; and great granddaughter, Lyric McKnight, all of Knoxville. Other survivors: brother, Gerald R. Eldridge, Sr., and wife, Lana, of Rockwood; sister, Mary Elizabeth (Sis) Daniels and husband, Mark, of Andersonville; Ina Lee and husband, Don, of Cleveland; and Sharan Rasnick and husband, Bill, of Knoxville. June also left behind many loving nieces and nephews. Among her many close friends are Elizabeth Cantwell and Barbara Simpson.
Funeral services are Friday, October 13, 2006 at 8:00pm at Weatherford Mortuary with Dr. Ron Stewart officiating. Graveside services and interment will be Saturday at Highland Memorial Cemetery, Kingston Pike, Knoxville. In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may make a donation to the Humane Society of Knox or Anderson County.
