An estranged Sevier County couple was found shot to death off Red Bud Lane this morning and authorities believe they were the victims of a murder-suicide, according to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office.
The bodies of Brian Keith Eberhardt, 36, and his wife, Ester Eberhardt, 35, were found this morning at Brian Eberhardt’s house after deputies were called to the residence to check on their welfare, said Sgt. Michael Hodges.
Ester Eberhardt was found lying near the base of a hill below the house with a gunshot wound to her face and her husband was found "about 15 feet above her" with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his chin, Hodges said.
A 9mm handgun was found lying between his legs, the deputy said.
Brian Eberhardt, who owned Eberhardt Construction Co., was arrested in April for allegedly assaulting his wife, Hodges said. She later withdrew the order of protection, however, but continued living in a separate residence.
She apparently went to his house today so they could discuss the construction business, Hodges said.
The couple has an 11-year-old son who is now staying with relatives, according to Hodges.

Two Sevierville residents were found shot to death outside a home on Red Bud Lane Tuesday morning in an apparent murder-suicide, according to investigating officer Sgt. Michael Hodges with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department.
While the investigation is on-going, Hodges said that it was apparent that Brian Eberhardt, of 521 Red Bud Lane, was the shooter in the incident. Eberhardt, 37, was found in a field in front of his house with a gunshot wound to his face, and a 9mm Smith and Wesson in his lap.
“When we arrived he was laying on his back, still breathing,” said Hodges. “I called for an ambulance to step it up and get on in there to see if we could save him. Their attempts were unsuccessful and they were pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.
His estranged wife, Ester Eberhardt, 36, was found about 15 feet away with one gunshot wound to the back of her head, which exited through her cheek. Ester Eberhardt was pronounced dead at the scene, Hodges said.
Hodges said that neighbors had told him that the couple had one 11-year-old male child who was in school at the time, and was with family members following the incident.
“It came in initially as a welfare check from the sister of the victim,” who lives in the residence next door, Hodges said. “She called in because when she talked to her on the phone she could hear them arguing and, at some point, the victim said ‘help me,’ he reported. “Then, there was a phone call back saying that she’d heard gun shots,” said Hodges.
There were no witnesses to the shooting. The complainant heard the shot but couldn’t see.
Only a month ago, Brian Eberhardt was arrested on domestic violence charges and was booked on April 5. “That’s the only booking we show in our facility; I don’t know about anywhere else,” said Hodges.
Hodges said that he had been told that the couple had been married for 17-18 years and were separated at the time, while they were in the process of a divorce. E. Eberhardt had been living elsewhere at the time.
Sheriff’s deputies Mike Watson and JJ Breeden arrived on the scene to assist Long and Hodges with the investigation.
