Dr. Lee Roy Dyer age 79, of Sevierville, stepped into heaven on Sunday morning, August 6, 2017. He was surrounded by his family when he embarked on his final journey. Dr. Dyer was an active member of the community, an accomplished businessman, and an esteemed dental clinician. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and will forever be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor by his friends and family. Dr. Dyer was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Tennessee in 1960. He proudly served as a Captain in the United States Army until he began his practice in Sevierville in 1962.
Dr. Dyer was a dedicated family man who is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theda Dyer; his daughter, Amy Dyer Brackins; his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Bradley Dyer and Brandi Dockins Dyer; and his grandchildren, Lucas Brackins, Bailey Brackins, Gavin Dyer, and Garrett Dyer, and sister-in-law Kathleen (Kathy) Dyer. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.C. and Gladys George Dyer; and, his brother, Dr. George Dyer.
Dr. Dyer enjoyed spending his time visiting friends and family, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He was also a gun activist and marksman and in 1976 he captained the Smoky Mountain Queen from Memphis to New Orleans. Dr. Dyer achieved the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America and served as a scout master earning the Silver Beaver Award for his distinguished service in 1986. His dedication to the Boy Scouts inspired both his son, Bradley and grandson, Lucas to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout as well. Dr. Dyer's dedication to the practice of dentistry resulted in several accolades throughout his long and successful career. He became a Fellow of the American College of Dentists in 1999; he received multiple Distinguished Service Awards from the Tennessee Dental Association; he was a member of the University of Tennessee's President's Club; and, he served as Chairman of the East Tennessee Academy of Dental Practice Administration.
