GRIFFIN , ROBERT S. - age 76, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Friday, January 8, 1999, at Holston Hills Health Care. Born June 4, 1922, in Knox County to the late Robert Franklin and Melinda Sterling Griffin . Mr. Griffin was a member of the Mount Harmony Baptist Church and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Strawberry Plains. Mr. Griffin was retired from Ideal Cement Company. Preceded in death by: sisters, Calra Stair, Ruth Newman, Edith Griffin , Louise Cate, Helen Hayter and Mildred Harrison. Survivors: wife, Ruby Tucker Griffin ; sons, Franklin W. Griffin and wife, Nancy, John M. Griffin and wife, Jeannine; daughters, Mary Jane Owens and husband, Vic, Robin Barbour and husband, Bob; grandchildren, Ryan Owens, Risa, Hannah, Cody, Summer and Jesse Griffin ; sisters, Ruby Sams and husband, W.M., Betty Jane Hardin and husband, Troy; several nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday at 8 p.m., at McCarty's Evergreen Chapel with Dr. Charles Earl and Dr. Scott Thomas officiating. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m., at Trentville Cemetery. The family will meet at 1:45 p.m., at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be: John Mills, Steve Swaggerty, John Ellis, Roy Kennedy, Gary Hardin, Deddle Walker. Memorials may be in the form of donations to the Mount Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. McCarty's Evergreen Chapel in charge of arrangements.
