Rose Mary Haley Lawson of Sevierville, died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 10, in Brooksville, Ky. A memorial service is scheduled at the Brooksville Baptist Church Thursday, Aug. 16.
Born on Sept. 11, 1929, Rose Mary was the daughter of Dr. C.F. and Estelle Haley of Brooksville. She graduated from Bracken County (Kentucky) High School in 1947 and attended the University of Kentucky, graduating with a Bachelor's of Arts in History, in 1951. While at UK, she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society. Rose Mary married Fred T. Lawson of Sevierville, whom she met at UK, in October 1951. They lived first in Portsmouth, Ohio, then for 37 years in Dayton, Ohio, and for the past 12 years they have resided in Sevierville.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, two sons, Fred H Lawson, Ph.D., and Thomas Lawson, Ph.D., two daughters in law, Deborah Lawson, M.D., and Dina Rasor, and two grandsons, Daniel and Nicholas Lawson, all now residing in California.
In her spirit of wanting to help others, Rose Mary donated her body to the medical school at UK. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Powersville Baptist Church cemetery fund in Powersville, Ky.
