Barbara Jean (Jo) Cates, age 69, of Newport, passed away suddenly Friday morning, May 18, 2012. She was lovingly known to everyone as “Nonny”. She was a member of Pigeon Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Cates; daughter, Donna Cates Verdi; son, Michael “Cramer” Cates; mother, Hattie Grooms; father and stepmother, Robert “Bob” and Helen Grooms. She is survived by her daughters, Reecie Cates (Mike Livesay) and Rhonda (L. D.) Ottinger; grandchildren, Denea Cates, Taylor and Tyler Livesay, Crystal Crum and Dustin Williamson; great-grandchildren, Krys Cates who was the apple of her eye, Karcye Franklin, Kingstyn Dick, Tanner Green, Aislyn Norton and Parker Williamson; step-father, Charles Murr; brothers, Bobby (Carol) Grooms, Reese (Cheryl) Grooms and Jimmy Dale (Tammy) Grooms; also many other family and friends. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, May 20, 2012 from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm with funeral services following at 8:00 pm, in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ransom Hall and Pastor Frank Livesay officiating. Burial will be 11:00 am Monday, May 21, 2012 in Union Cemetery.
