FIELDS , RUTH ANNA - age 82, of South Knoxville, returned to God and her heavenly home on Tuesday, December 16, 2003. Ruth was born in Knoxville on April 16, 1921 to Roy and Jama Lindsey. She was a life long member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was retired from Knox County Schools after 30 years, most of those years spent at Vestal and Mt. Olive Schools. She loved gardening and was known in her neighborhood for her beautiful flowerbeds. Ruth was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 62 years, James A. Fields and four of her siblings. She is survived by her eight children: daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Bill Voight of Seymour, Sandy and James Watkins of North Carolina, Kathy and Carl Roberts of Corryton, Ruthie and Bob Garner of Sevierville sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry of Idaho, James R. (Butch) and Sharon of Knoxville, Bob and Carol of Knoxville, Michael and Gail of North Carolina 19 grandchildren 26 great-grandchildren sisters, Doris Triplett, Helen Sayne and brother, Roy Lindsey. The family wishes to express special thanks to Shannondale of Maryville Healthcare Center staff and Chaplains Dixie Petrey and Rob Williamson. Funeral service will be held 11 AM on Friday, December 19, 2003 at Immanuel Baptist Church, Dr. George Hollander officiating. The body will lie in state from 10-11 AM prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Arthur Fields , Gary Holliday, Michael Garner, Douglas Roberts, Bobby Fields , Chad Garner and Brian Watkins.
