WHALEY, BURL W. - age 79, of Maryville, died 8 a.m., Saturday, January 9, 1999, at Ft. Sanders Hospital. He was a Christian of the Baptist faith. Mr. Whaley served in the US Army during WWII, was former Chief of Police of Townsend, served as police officer for the Maryville Police Dept. and was a county deputy on the Blount County Sheriffs Dept. He belonged to Fraternal Order of Police, was retired from the Security Dept. of the Aluminum Co. of America TN operations and was a member of the Alcoa Aluminum Company 25 Year Service Club. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Whaley; brothers, Leonard, Oliver and Homer Whaley; sister, Nola Shell; daughter, Shirley Krouse; grandson, Christopher Krouse. Survivors include: his wife of 50 years, Louise Yearout Whaley; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Douglas Russell of Maryville; daughter, Reba Joyce Reagan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, William and Elizabeth Russell of Maryville; and six others; sisters, Bertha Walker of Alcoa; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8 p.m., Monday in McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill White officiating. The interment will be 11 a.m., Tuesday in Clarks Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:30-8 p.m., at McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home, Maryville.
