Lowe, Sohmer M., age 94, of South Knoxville, went to his eternal home on Friday, September 18, 2009 at St. Mary’s Residential Hospice. He was a member of Central Point Baptist Church in Rockford. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Africa during World War II. He was retired from Carpenters Local 50. He was a very special father and Pappaw. Preceded in death by wife of 70 years, Nellie Lowe; daughter, Austene Collette; brothers, Robert and Vernon.
Survivors
Survived by son, Rodger Lowe and wife Diane; daughters, Marian Whyte and husband, Bob; Doris Pressley and husband, Tom; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Roy Lowe, Jr.; several special nieces and nephews; and all his special barber shop buddies. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Holston Healthcare and St. Mary’s Residential Hospice as well as Dr. Miller for their care and compassion during his illness.
Service
Family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Central Point Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM, Rev. Chris Cupp officiating. Family and friends will meet at Central Point Baptist Church Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Tuesday for interment services, Rev. Guy Milam officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Pike, Knoxville, TN 37938; Gideons International; or Lottie Moon Missions c/o Central Point Baptist Church 3617 Central Point Road, Rockford, TN 37853.
