Harold R. Walker, 83, of New Market, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was the nephew of the Walker Sisters and was born in their cabin in what is now the Great Smoky Mountain National Park on June 7, 1929, to James and Ida Walker.
The youngest of 16 children, he grew up in the mountains and attended the Little Greenbrier Schoolhouse, which was built by his grandfather. He married Ramona Burkhart in 1948, and the couple went to France as missionaries in 1960. Upon their return home, they had two children, and later moved to Lakeland, Florida. Harold was a supervisor for Publix Supermarkets produce warehouse. The family moved back to Sevier County in 2002.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Walker Ijames of Knoxville; son, Shannon Andre’ Walker and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Smith Walker of New Market; 9 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. His wife went home to Heaven before him in 2005.
A celebration of Harold’s life will be held on Saturday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Abbott Cemetery on Abbott Lane off Lyon Spring Road in Wear’s Valley. A covered dish lunch will follow. Please call 865-356-7695 for more information or directions.

Harold R. Walker, 83, of New Market, TN., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
