J.P. (James P.) Thomas of Kodak, TN. passed away on March 24, 2006 at Ft. Sanders Sevier Medical Center in Sevierville, TN.
J.P. was a lifelong resident of Sevier County, graduate of Harrison Chilhowie Baptist Academy in 1943. Prior to attending high school graduation ceremonies he volunteered into the Army of the United States-Troop C 18th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron Mechanized.
Honorably discharged November 4, 1945. Staff Sear gent J. P. Thomas was a point man for General Patton. During his service he was in the landing on Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge.
Upon returning home, he operated the Kodak Milling Company until 1966. He was known as “The Miller”. There after he was a partner in Gilbert and Hodges Storage in Knoxville, TN.
Mr. Thomas was a member of Kodak Masonic Lodge where he was a Master Mason over fifty years. He was a lifetime member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church
He was preceded in death by His wife, Harva George Underwood Thomas; Parents, Joe and Nellie Stoffell Thomas; brothers, Lee and Bill Thomas; Sisters, Lola Dodson and Mattie Loveday.
Survivors include his daughter, Jeannie Paule Thomas Angele and husband, Gus; grandchildren, John and Suzanne Angele; Sister, Pauline Hodges; sister-in-law, Christine Underwood Kyte; nephews, Buford Loveday Jr., and Edward Thomas; nieces, Mary Lee Bowers; Carolyn Clabough; Joyce Catlett; Shirley Ellis and Virginia Davis; Special friends Joanna Hodges; the Henry and Wanda Ip family of Thailand and Hong Kong (presently in San Gabriel California)
Services will be held 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Rawlings Funeral Home with the Rev. Roland Buck officiating.
Interment will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Oak Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M.Tuesday March 28, 2006.
