John Calvin Finchum, Jr., age 78, of Sevierville, TN left this life on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. John was born June 21, 1937 in Jefferson County, but spent most of his life in Sevierville. John worked at Sevierville Hardware until the store closed. He retired from Sevierville Housing Authority Maintenance Department. After his retirement, he worked for Joseph Construction. John served in the U.S. Army for six years. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World Chapter 101, VFW, and American Legion Post 104. John was former Chief of Sevierville Auxiliary Police. He was a member of Boyds Creek Church of God and also attended Luretta United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Calvin Finchum, Sr. and Allievene Wells Finchum; grandparents, Joe and Martha Burchfiel Wells, and Lillie Finchum; father and mother-in-law, William and Flora Swann; sister, Ruth Lowe; brothers-in-law, Roy Lowe, Glenn Lethco, and Jimmy Swann.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Willa Mae Swann Finchum; daughter, Johnna Diane Rhea Finchum and Will Phipps; foster son, Michael Frazier and wife, Rachel; granddaughters, Brittni Elizabeth Rheachelle Eldridge and Michael Carpenter, Courtni Caroline Victoria Stone and husband, Randy, Jennifer Eldridge; great-granddaughter, Rhealee Elizabeth Victoria Eldridge-Stone; great-grandson, Caleb John Randall Stone; sister, Faye Lethco; nieces, Linda Beason and husband, Joe, and Jane Lethco; nephew, Jim Lethco and wife, Kelly; great-nieces, Amanda Parrott and husband, Cale, Heather Hughes and husband, Brian; great-nephew, Ben Lethco; many cousins and friends.
Funeral Service 7 PM Thursday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Wells, Rev. Jimmy Wells, and Rev. Jack McCarter officiating. Music provided by Boyds Creek Church of God.
Family and friends will leave in procession from Atchley Funeral Home 9:30 AM Friday for the graveside service and interment at Middle Creek Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 104.
The family will received friends from 5 to 7 PM Thursday, October 1st at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
