Sevier County native to perform at FBC Sevierville
by ELLEN BROWN
Worship leader, songwriter and musician Roger Williams is looking forward to returning home after performing in various other cities while on tour.
The Seymour native and his group — the All-Mixed Up Quartet — will perform at 7 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Sevierville. Danny Bright, lead singer of Brightgray, and evangelist Jason Roe will also be part of the special program.
“We definitely wanted to put home on the schedule,” said Williams, who has traveled all over the Southeast with his group for their “Unlocked” tour. “We love (FBC Sevierville associate youth pastor) Scott Carter and we’re excited about this opportunity. This is our first mini-tour.”
The quartet is made up of fellow Seymour native Andy Blanchard, along with Ben Bolden, James “Earl” Greene and “Guitar” Will Carter. Fans say they “combine humor and passionate worship” that is often targeted towards youth but popular among all ages.
“We deal a lot with teenagers,” Williams said. “When Mom and Dad are out of work, there’s this beat-down atmosphere that trickles down. We try to remind people to smile every day.”
For a period of time, the five friends stayed busy traveling and singing at different camps and revivals.
“We were content with doing just that — we never really sought out getting on the radio. It just wasn’t our mission. But we had gotten encouragement from family and friends, and we started doing bigger conferences in Atlanta, the Carolinas and Kentucky. One thing led to another, and we’re scheduled to release our first single in July.”
The group has been working with Grammy-nominated and Dove Award-winning producer Travis Wyrick, who has also worked with Charlie Daniels, Dolly Parton, POD, Superchick, Jag Star, Disciple and 10 Years.
“Regardless of what happens, we’ll continue to travel and make music,” Williams said.
Williams is the son of Nancy and the late Mike Williams and the grandson of Bobbie Jo Williams and Jack Rogers.
Blanchard is the son of George and Pam Blanchard.
