D. S. "June" Miller, Jr. obituary
- [S24] The Newport Plain Talk, (http://www.newportplaintalk.com), 13 Aug 2006.
...When I found out that the folks who started to open Suzy Q's had actually opened last week, I paid a visit. You recall that Susan Leaster's husband and father were killed in a mid-June crash on Hwy. 25E. They had planned to open the East Broadway restaurant the day they were killed and it was uncertain as to whether the restaurant would ever open. But Susan felt that the last thing that Gary Leaster helped her do was purchase the restaurant so perhaps it was meant to be. When I walked in, who did I see eating some hot Reuben sandwiches but Jack Reynolds and his wife, Clara. He is an old friend from his football coaching days at Cocke County High School. You know Clara as the sister to the late D.S. Miller. Jack and Clara live at Briar Thicket on a small farm. The big news from them is that Jack recuperated fine from a right hip joint replacement in February. He had the surgery at Lakeway Hospital and hardly missed a day of walking. Students and teachers will recall that Jack served as interim principal after Joe Zavona left and until Gary Williams took over.
