Selma Shelton Murr, age 92, of Newport, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, went to be with her Lord Thursday, February 19, 2004 at her residence. She touched many lives while operating Murr’s Grocery in Del Rio for 34 years before her retirement in 2002. She attended Piney Grove Baptist Church.
Her husband, Oscar Murr, son Oscar Murr, Jr., parents Roderick and Kitty Shelton, and four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Fay and Harry Melton, Geraldine and Lester McMahan, and Kaye and Albert Steelman; daughter, Letitia Murr; sister, Robenia Seay; and eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Murr will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, February 20, 2004 at 8:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Murr and Rev. Lester McMahan officiating.
Graveside service will be Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Clark Cemetery at Deep Gap.
The family will receive friends Friday evening, February 20, 2004 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Selma will continue to live in the memories of her loving and devoted family.
Brown funeral home has been honored to provide the final arrangements for Mrs. Selma Shelton Murr.
