Denver F. Baxter, 80, passed away Wednesday morning at his home in Cosby following a lengthy illness.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morristown.
Denver was a WWII naval pilot hero.
He was very active in the community since retiring in Cosby.
He had been afÞliated with the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
He was a major inþuence in establishing the 911 system in Cocke County.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Baxter, of Cosby; children, Denver Baxter Jr. of Woodstock, Georgia, and Anne Baxter of Plantation Key, Florida; stepchildren, Monarae Partin of Cosby and Chris Ryan and his wife, Rebecca, of Mt. Home, Idaho; brothers, Delmar and his wife, Uvila Baxter of Orlando, Florida, Tracy Baxter of Knoxville, and James and his wife, Dorothy Baxter, of Franklin; grandchildren, Ryan, Alissa and Matt Warlick, all of Cosby, and Brittany Ryan of Mt. Home, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday at the Brown Funeral Chapel with Rev. Danny Georges ofÞciating.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the Brown Funeral Home.
Brown Funeral Home is in charge.
