Resided in Dandridge, TN
Delmar Ray Large, age 74 of Dandridge, passed from his earthly life into the glorious presence of his Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday May 19, 2013.
On Sunday, May 10, 1956 on his 17th birthday, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 26 years (1956-1982). He found being a part of the USN was like being a part of a very large family of brother, uncles and dads. He enjoyed serving aboard the U.S. Navy ships in Norfolk, VA and Dam Neck, VA. In addition to Virginia he was also stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois and Holy Loch, Scotland. After retiring from the Navy in 1982 he continued his service with the United States Government with DOD.
March 19, 1961 he married Mary Evelyn Manning to whom he was married 52 years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Evelyn Large; father, Marion Herbert Ownby; infant sister, Mary Elizabeth Ownby; brother, Johnny Carl Ownby and his wife Pauline; brother-in-law, Eddie Henry; sisters-in-law, Georgia Mae Atchley Newman, Sue McCarter Manning; father and mother-in-law, Earl D. and Eula Velma Clinton Manning; nephews, Gary Ownby and Howard P. McMahan, Jr.
Survivors include:
Wife: Mary Evelyn Large
Sisters: Dannie Henry and Marian Groover
Brothers: Conley Ownby and wife Leslie, Kenneth Ownby
Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Pauline and Howard McMahan, David Newman, Glenda and Ray Loveday, Earl Manning, Jr., Curtis and Daintry Manning, Danny Sr. and Carol Manning
