Gladys Lyle “Nanny” Matthews, 84, of Strawberry Plains, was taken peacefully in the arms of Jesus to a beautiful reunion with loved ones in heaven on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. She was dearly loved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all other family and friends.
Gladys was a descendent of the prominent “Bryan” family. Her fourth Great Grandfather was Peter Bryan (Revolutionary war hero and signer of the Tennessee Constitution) and she was a direct blood relative of William Jennings Bryan (Candidate for U.S. President) and Rebecca Bryan Boone (wife of Daniel Boone).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cebern Matthews; parents, Calvin and Minnie Bryan Lyle; and brothers, Warren and Sammie Lyle.
She is survived by her children, Robert and Debbie Matthews, Rita and Todd Swatsler, Gail and Ralph Roderick, Connie and Tom Mosser; grandchildren, Willie and Aimee Roderick, Stephanie and Marques Alexander, Matt and Nichole Roderick, Kris and Kim Matthews, James and Sue Matthews, Daniel Mosser and Christina Mosser; Great-grandchildren, Tim, John, Beth, Rachel, Matthew, Ava, Noah, Kristopher, Justin and Lydia, Derek, Dustin, Brandon, Jocelyn, Logan, and Deanna; brother, Bryan Lyle and his wife, Patsy; nieces, Patty Harris, Louise Hurst, and Lou Ann Elmore; nephews, Clark and Allen Lyle; and special friends, Gloria Spears, Mary Alice Yoder, Krystle Parrott, and Braxton Quinn. Thank you…She loved you all.
Funeral service 2:00 pm Saturday, March 21, 2014 at Fielden Chapel with Gloria Spears officiating. Interment immediately following the service in Fain Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service at Fielden Funeral Home in New Market.
