Margie Pearl Lawson Hurst, age 91, passed away peacefully on Friday evening at Asbury Place, Maryville. Margie left this earthly body to join her beloved husband, Rev. Elmer Hurst, and many other precious relatives in Heaven. Margie and Elmer celebrated 69 happy years of marriage until his death in February 2007, and together they shared the gospel with thousands of people in Tennessee and several other states. Margie was born in Wears Valley on February 27, 1921, to the late Boyd Lawson and Ida Duggan Lawson. Other relatives who preceded in Margie in death include two sisters and spouses: Ruby and Ollie Long, and Mary and George Caldwell; one brother and spouse: Stanley and Trula Lawson; two brothers: Willie Lawson and Ranzile Lawson; son-in-law: Ed Newport. Grieving and surviving relatives include two daughters: Edith Newport and Mary Walker, both of Maryville; son and daughter-in-law: John and Judy Hurst, Louisville; three grandchildren and their spouses: Stacy and Timothy Hubbard, Friendsville; Travers and Monica Hurst, Knoxville; and Wendy and Kyle Pittman, Seymour; eight precious great-grandchildren: Tyler Hill, Caleb and Weston Hubbard, Abby and Emmaline Hurst, and Jenna and Sara Beth Pittman. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Rev. Everett Evans, Greenback; two sisters-in-law: Beulah Lawson and Dorothy Lawson, both of Maryville; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family in Tennessee and North Carolina. Graveside funeral and burial services will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery on Monday, June 4, at 3:00 p.m. The family and friends will assemble at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service at 2:30 p.m. Monday for the procession to the cemetery. The family wishes to express special thanks to friends who have visited and prayed with Mother, to the staff and nurses at Asbury Place for their special care, and to her doctors and their staff: Dr. David Calvert, Dr. Robert Blacky, and Dr. Samar AlSharif at Blount Memorial Hospital.
