Dean Marine 74, of El Dorado, Ark., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at his home. Dean was a member of Marysville United Methodist Church. He was born to Earl and Zelma Marine May 20, 1934, in Pigeon Forge. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was awarded a gold medal and plaque by the American Legion in Richmond, Va., in 1956 for outstanding heroism for saving the lives of three children in an apartment fire. Dean loved to ride motorcycles until he was unable for health reasons. He met his wife on a motorcycle in 1952 and they rode together for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Betty Jo Marine of El Dorado; son, Dean Marine Jr. and friend Lisa of Batesville, Ark.; daughters, Kay Metzer and husband Al of El Dorado and Sharon Benson and friend Billy of El Dorado; brother, Gene Marine of Gatlinburg; sister, Dorthy Nell Adkins of Pigeon Forge; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Marysville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Thorton officiating. Burial will be at Marysville Cemetery. Perry's Funeral Chapels, 312 West Oak Street, El Dorado, Arkansas 71730 in charge of arrangements.
