O. Eugene ``Gene'' Hurst, age 70, of Friendsville, passed away Saturday morning, June 18, 2005, at the family home after a battle of renal failure. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic and worked for Vulcan Material for many years. He was a loyal race fan and raced for many years himself at the local tracks. Preceded in death by parents, Haskell and Blanche Hurst of Sevierville.
Survived by loving wife, Mary Coffman Hurst; children and spouse, Doran and Robin England of Maryville, Tony Hurst of Clinton, Chuck Hurst of Maryville; grandchildren, Steven and Rachel Mancini, Danny Hurst, Shelby and Cody England; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Rev. Rick Smelcer of Seymour, Rosa and John Craig, Patsy and David Cross, J.C. and Sue Coffman; brothers and sisters-in-law, R.H. and Ima Hurst of Rockford, Jim and Betty Hurst of Maryville, Bobby and Bonnie Hurst of Seymour, David and Shirley Hurst of Knoxville, L.C. and Marilyn Hurst of Halls, Donnie and Suzanne Hurst, Charles and Mary Hurst, all of Daytona, Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was a loving person and loved to laugh. Special thanks to the East Tennessee Dialysis Center, Dr. Hatab and Dr. Dirmeyer for their care during Gene's illness. Funeral service 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at Miller Funeral Home Cedar Chapel, Rev. Rick Smelcer and Rev. Mike Arp officiating. Family and friends will meet at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Sevier County at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday for the interment service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish, may contribute to the Friendsville Volunteer Fire Department. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryvlle.
